Looking for a New Years resolution that isn’t losing weight or exercising more? Here are some Catholic ideas for resolutions that will clean your soul and make you a more faithful disciple of Jesus.
Go to daily Mass at least once a week.
Read the New Testament. Just a chapter or two each day and begin with the Gospel of Mark and Luke.
Pray the Rosary three times a week. It takes 15 minutes!
Get a spiritual director.
Keep a journal tracking your prayer life.
Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation once a month.
Donate 10% of your annual income to charity. (think about giving at least 5% to your parish Church)
Volunteer at a food pantry or soup kitchen once a month or one a quarter.
Buy that homeless person you see on the street a meal. Ask what they want to eat and bring it to them…or better yet, take them in the restaurant and get to know them.
Pray for your classmate or coworker who annoys/angers you the most. Offer a specific prayer or penance for them once a week.
Make a personal pilgrimage each month to a nearby shrine or church.
Start praying the Liturgy of the Hours (begin with either Morning or Evening Prayer).
Make a retreat this year.
Volunteer for something new (or for the first time) at your parish.
Start wearing a scapular every day.
Plan on and make the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary this year by St. Louis de Montfort.
Attend Holy Mass at an Eastern Rite Catholic Church. Try different ones!
Attend Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite (the Mass before Vatican II).
Stop watching Pornography.
Read classic Catholic literature by G.K Chesterton, Tolkien, and even C.S Lewis (he was almost Catholic).
