Today we celebrate the feast of the Archangels who are important because in salvation history, they came to announce the Good News of Jesus Christ. All angels are “messengers,” but the the Archangels came with the most important of messages: Jesus Christ. This is important to note because the Angels, just like Mary and the saints, point us to Jesus Christ, who is the center of our lives. I hope that the tile of the post reminded you of the book/movie entitled “Angels & Demons,” and I did that on purpose because I want to show that angels are not supposed to be seen as independent beings who are doing their own thing. Angels bring messages from God that point us back to God, most especially to the Eucharist; however, not all angels are as cooperative with God’s plan, which is where demons come from.
Demons are angels who turned away from God and are determined to turn others away from God. Their message is not love but hate. Calling on the angels, specifically the archangels and our own guardian angels, help us to stay on the path of love, who is God. When we feel tempted to sin, any sort of spiritual desolation, or we hear lies such as “your not good enough,” “no one loves you,” or “there is no God,” that means the fallen angels are around and you need to call on your guardian angel and the archangels to come and defend you against the wickedness and snares of the devil and his followers.
Anyone who comes from God is going to bring love and peace because that’s who God is. Trust in God, call on the angels, and pray to God asking for your guardian angel to introduce themselves and start a relationship with that powerful spirit who is literally walking with you to heaven.
Holy Angels of God, pray for us.
